Questions about prices and certain functions

Older BFO & VLF metal detectors had a VCO ( go look it up yourself) to interpret the analogue signal ( modulate it from the detectors mostly ultrasonic frequency to an audible one & amplify the miniscule amplitude) . The VCO sound provides the user WAY more info in a rapidly intelligible way...

Prospecting/ Detecting Tour & Training Qld, Queensland

Dunno if it is part of the "Tour" but my understanding is they doze a section & people get their own patch to play on ( as well as having free range on the lease). Certainly there was a awful lot of earthworks noise there in Sept when I was detecting in the GPA out side their lease !

Prospecting/ Detecting Tour & Training Qld, Queensland

I am unaware of any pay to detect stations in Clermont area ( If you find one let us know !) To my knowledge they are all in Etheridge Shire ( Western Ck, Flat Ck, Mt Hogan, Mt Talbot, Lornevale) except Palmerville and a very expensive one at Grass Hut Station near Charters Towers In Clermont...

    Minelab Equinox 900

I was in Multi. I have been over those areas with 5 other detectors previously and at same time as testing the 900 and would class the ground as varying between mild to medium mineralisation. Sent the 900 to Minelab who said " it performed same as our reference detector" without answering...

aptX Low Latency compatible gear - Equinox & GPX6000 users

I got one & works as advertised - pairs in LL mode with 6000 from the word go and no significant audio lag. Got to be happy. Only minor quibble is that the volume knob is relatively easy to bump up or down accidently.

How good are our fancy new metal detectors?

I wonder if NF/Coiltek will be allowed to release a lightweight 18" Mono round coil for the 6000? The threshold stability should improve as it averages more ground and depth must improve. I figure that if ithe 6000 can knock the socks off an SDC 8" on small gold with its 11"coil ( which it...

aptX Low Latency compatible gear - Equinox & GPX6000 users

Hi Nenad, does that new Quest LL BT receiver bring up the Low Latency Icon on the 6000 when connected ? Just asking as I have APTX LL BT receivers that do connect LL BT to my laptop but wont bring up the LL Icon when connected to the 6000 and the lag is noticeable.

Do big Nuggets travel further from the source than small nuggets

Also when you say "source" you mean the place on the current ground surface where the reef or whatever protrudes. Millions of years ago the ground surface may have been tens or hundreds of meters higher than now and the reef may well have extended up at an angle so the big nugget hasnt...

    GPX6000 Vs SDC2300 Sensitivity Test.

An old thread but I thought I would add to it... The answer I always give to the inevitable Max Depth question is " Your detector will see a target further in the air than in the ground and a bigger target further than a smaller one so next time you go detecting point your detector at your car...

    Advice Needed.

If you are serious about making a living from mining then it is not something that you can just go learn all by yourself and you will need big $$ for equipment. These days noone makes a living by truly hand mining. Suggest getting a job, any job, in a gold/opal mining town then chatting down...

    Hypatia Stone

Lone wolf - What is your source for that statement ? Reason I am asking is that even experts in places like Washington University use meteorite ID flowcharts that start with using a magnet. https://sites.wustl.edu/meteoritesite/items/what_to_do/

Are the Tourist Fossicking Sites at Emerald and Sapphire QLD worth it?

A couple give you a bucket full of screened wash to play with A couple give you a bucket and point you at at a pile of their wash already heaped up A couple take you out to a GPA and teach you how using their equipment. A couple let you dig your own wash in their lease / mine Increasing...

    Minelab Equinox 900

Hi NE, I have recently got a 900. Love the ergonomics but am puzzled by the performance. I have only put 10 hrs on it - about 2hrs playing in my test bed & the rest in a trashy minesite. Default settings on Gold1 & 2. 1) I am using both the 6" and the 10x5 DD Coiltek and in moderate...

Are the Tourist Fossicking Sites at Emerald and Sapphire QLD worth it?

Depends what you mean by "tourist sites" and "worth it ". If you mean the various places in town where they give you a bucket of wash and you process it there then well you will definitely get sapphires and they will definitely be small. you would be very lucky to find one worthy of cutting...

How to tape off Equinox 900 coils with tape

    1) With the cover off run a thin bead of neutral cure silastic around all the inside corners of the cover. 2) clip cover on and press firmly working your way around so some silastic oozes up and out the gap all the way around 3) wipe away excess silastic with white spirits or kero. You...

Would like advice on which detector.

i have bungee and used the 14x9 for 18m straight . its not terrible just not a balanced setup like with the std coil or 10x5 Also caution with the 6000 comparison. Yes on bed rock SDC + 10x5 will give the 6000 with 11 a good run for its money but go to a little deeper area or add a 10x5...

Would like advice on which detector.

yeah i have the 14x9 and the 10x5. I got the 14x9 first and it is deeper without losing sensitivity vs the ML8 but makes the detector unbalanced and I fatigue quicker. The 10x5 is awesome. it seems to go at least as deep as the ML8 and def finds smaller stuff - even so small that my mates...

Would like advice on which detector.

Understand that SDC2300 is double to triple the price range you are looking in but: 1) No metal detector is simpler to use - just turn on & go. 2) Great ground handling - will work nearly anywhere 3) It is great at small gold -there are hundreds more small nuggets out there than larger ones 4)...
