Tourists with gold fever fossick in central Queensland as metal price climbs

Where on earth are they hiding "2500 long term prospectors", staying an average of 5 months, in little ole Clermont ???? !!!! I only spent a couple of days in Clermont in May this year but I only saw a couple of other dirt fishers and previous years I have maybe seen half a dozen cars...

    Whites TDI Pro on YouTube

The TDI series may be old tech ( single channel manual GB) but with a Sadie she will still beat the hell out of modern VLFs in upto medium mineralisation

    WA tenements

On my way back from WA. Prospected on 8 leases. 3x 40e, rest pending. On 2 of the 40e I had caretaker / drill boss ask to see my 40e and on 1 pending the applicant was trying to bluff people off. Didnt see anyone "official" on the other 5 leases. an up to date Trilobite is invaluable... btw...

    Which metal detector for me?

I would counsel patience, saving the pennies and still buying a PI. You might be delaying your foray into nugget finding by another year but after the second year you would be well ahead vs another VLF and well set up for continuing the hobby.

    Which metal detector for me?

Spend your combined $3k budget on a new Algoforce E1500 or 2ndhand SDC/GPX and take turns carrying the pick. Infinitely better end result than buying 2 x $1500 VLF detectors. You will be able to detect effectively in far more places and I would expect you would find 20x amount of gold.

    Noob from Aspendale

If getting a lot of false signals try raising coil 100mm off ground whilst swinging. Should also try dropping Sensitivity say 5 points or more. With either change you will then not see the smaller real targets but should greatly reduce false ones. Its all a game of chances and you are...

    Noob from Aspendale

Freq: multi Mode :Gold2 GB Track : On Discrim: 0 likely to be be good, if not best settings in any Oz gold area. Dont start your detecting career by trying to use Discrimination and only dig gold. It will NEVER work and you will lose valuable learnings. As a beginner you need to start by...

    WHiTES TRx pinpointer rEPAir AuSTRALiA

I have both as well. Totally agree with TRX being better at detecting straight ahead and going deeper but in highly mineralised ground it cant cope as well as the Quest and falses more. Both drive my 6000 crazy but with Whites gone a new TRX is sadly not an option for Baz

    WHiTES TRx pinpointer rEPAir AuSTRALiA

Replacing a ferrite rod coil on a PCB is easy, if you know the inductance, Q and dimensions. without that info I wouldnt hold much hope. If you can find the TRX circuit diagram on the net you might be in with a chance. I suspect fixing it will be $75 ish from an electronic technician inc...

Hello all. Brand new. Have watched every gold prospecting show there is for the last 30 years . Decided to give it a go.

Hi Glen. I dont wish to dampen your enthusiasm but detecting Deep Creek Gympie is a real challenge given the grass cover and amount of trash. see post below. https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/threads/gympie-and-surrounds-information-questions.2810/post-568704 Nanango 7 mile Diggings is...

AlgoForce E1500 - NEW PI DETECTOR FROM EX MINELAB ENGINEER

I took the AF E1500 with me on my 3m detecting trip. TBH I used the 6000 90% of the time but in 3 different +50 piece patches I gave the AF E1500 +12Evo a run for a part or full day, sometimes over ground already done with the 6000 and sometimes on fresh adjacent ground as patch extension. I...

    Lawnvale/lornvale station (FNQ)

didnt go to LV this year, just WC, but I didnt stay there more than a couple of days due to the grass cover. not impossible, just harder work than I wanted. LV will be same but there are rockier bits by western creek that would stay low. to access LV you either need to stay at Forsayth...

    Mechanics help required please.

Hate to say it but no coolant and no external leak means it is your head gasket :( fill up the coolant and if the engine starts check your exhaust for steam. if it doesnt want to turn over dont keep trying, you will have a cylinder full of water. also are you just checking just the radiator...

    Stamper Batteries

stamp batteries also can take a larger feed size. This suited the old timers where RoM ore could be fed to the stamp battery directly without a primary crushing step, which wouldve required tranporting in yet another large heavy expensive bit of kit all the way out there. For free gold in...

    Minelab's next gold machine

Dean was there anything special about the 20g and 9.48g nugget that the 6k couldnt see it ? My 6k ( and others) can see 5g at 400mm no prob in reasonably mineralised ground. ML could prob do that H/L tone via a firmware upgrade if they wanted to...if. I would like to see them give 2 more...

    Minelab's next gold machine

The 6k has good ground handling, good depth, insane sensitivity to tiny bits and is light. All those could be improved slightly but can they be improved significantly enough for me to want to pay for a new detector? I dont think so. Unless my 6k is auto programmed to self destruct at 3years...

    Strange finds in the goldfields?

I wish I could find the photo of the fully intact 4ft empty glass aquarium i found tumbled in the lantana at a creeks edge about 10km into a forest Being beyond belief I had a good look around and realised there was a bit of a track about 6m above on the thickly vegetated bank slope. I presume...

What is this specimen worth please?

Goto Supacheap Auto and buy some Septone Alibrite. It is 1% hydrofluoric acid, which is the only easily obtainable acid that will dissolve most rocks. It wont dissolve gold. A week or 2 in 25ml of pure Alibrite, pref somewhere warm but well away from living areas and kids, and your nugget will...

    Refining problem

if your gold is all stuck in the slag then most likely you were too cold. That stops the gold melting properly and makes the flux too viscous for the tiny droplets of gold to rain thru to make the ingot in a puddle at the bottom. wrap the slag brick in a rag, smash it up well. Dolly it finer...
