Hi All, my name is Russ and I’m new to this group and hoping someone may know why my GPX 5000 won’t be beep like it’s meant to after a factory reset ? Also it seems very weak in its signal.. thanks all hope you can help..

That sounds OK, but I'd suggest you do the above online verification check just to be sure.

Was it operating alright before the reset?
I’m not sure as I am unfamiliar with the machine but I am confused when it doesn’t give the 3 beeps to say the reset is complete?

Hi Russ. Probably quite a few things to check. And I'm sorry if all of this sounds really basic. I'm not trying to be patronising but it might just be one little hiccup causing the problem.

How are you listening to the audio? Speaker or headphones directly plugged into the battery? Have you tried a different speaker or headphones?

Are you using an audio booster (B&Z, SPO1, etc)? Batteries new/full?

Are all cables in good condition and plugged in and done up properly. If using a booster, is everything in the correct order, cables in the right holes? Is there a 'Quiet' switch on the booster that might be accidently on?

Have you tried an actual Factory Reset on starting up the machine? See manual how to do it.

On start-up, have the switches on the front of the detector on General, Enhance, Mono and Fixed.

Are you well away (many KM) from any source of EMI - power lines, internet, cars, trucks?

After checking all of that does the detector give a nice, even threshold and does a coin passed over the coil make a hell of a racket? If no, it might be a dud coil, dud cable, dud speaker, dud headphones - lots of options unfortunately.

If it does make a hell of a racket you are getting somewhere. Now when you press the little button next to the Threshold knob (the Autotune button) does the threshold noise jump all over the place, up and down for a minute or so - and yes, it should then end with beep, beep, beep and then a nice, stable threshold.

If none of that works there may be other bridges to cross!

Let us know how you go 👍

Hi Russ,
Whereabouts in QLD are you. There's possibly a forum member near you that can have a look for you. If you're in Brisbane Southside, send me a message and I'm happy to have a look to see if there is a problem that can be easily fixed.

Alternatively, Gold Rat in Freda st Mt Gravatt may be willing to carry out some checks for you.

Thanks for that, I’m currently travelling around with caravan and heading to Karara in the next few weeks..
