I heard a theory recently that places like Poverty Gully were so-named by successful prospectors to put off new chums staking claims there. Your excellent finds at "Misery Creek" lend credence to the theory. Well done!Found a lot of chunky Gold at Misery Creek. This is coarse gold. Off the reef? Found about 4 grams so far. Lots more there. This is some of it. Biggest is .23
Thank you...in Ballarat, first Gold discovered there is called Poverty Point I think, so it sounds like it's something they did.I heard a theory recently that places like Poverty Gully were so-named by successful prospectors to put off new chums staking claims there. Good going there mate. If you are prepared to hike up or down stream well away from where everyone else goes, you will be rewarded. It is tough terrain and getting more overgrown every year.Found a lot of chunky Gold at Misery Creek. This is coarse gold. Off the reef? Found about 4 grams so far. Lots more there. That's so true. This is miles away from where most people go. Always found good gold if you're prepared to walk a fair way in.Good going there mate. Amazing find! Was this from panning in the creek or with metal detector?Found a lot of chunky Gold at Misery Creek. This is coarse gold. Off the reef? Found about 4 grams so far. Lots more there. This is some of it. Biggest is .23View attachment 14641
Gotta be panning or crevicing if the biggest is .23, because there's quite a bit shown that's a lot smaller and wouldn't be detectable.Amazing find! Was this from panning in the creek or with metal detector?
Panning, around large rocks, crevicing in cracks and grooves but is covered by slate, mud, clay, sometimes two or three feet deep. All the good stuff on the bottom. Some areas like concrete.Amazing find! Was this from panning in the creek or with metal detector?
