Flower looks the same size as this one I found the other day GP, I thought it was lead to start with as it is very heavy but on closer inspection it may be a pewter alloy and am thinking it is a decorative cloak claspe as it looks like it had a pin connected to the rear.

Havn't been able to find any similar on the internet, so could be off a belt buckle ...........

Back with a vengeance today, 3 hours of relic detecting over the same spot as previous netted me a few nice finds, can't imagine what I'd find over a full day. :D

Pretty hard to pick the spread of finds, everything seems to strewn over quite a large area due the ground being ripped. Some good finds have been dragged a long way from the original site, and in areas where there is no iron (usually a sign of a previous dwelling). The first good find was a brilliant 1899 Transvaal War South Australian Peace medal (Boer War). It wasn't the greatest sounding target considering it was sitting in the hole below an iron spring which really screwed around with the tones.

Mid hunt I dug what I thought was just a piece of copper jewellery, though when I cleaned it up back home, to my surprise it was an 1887 Queen Victoria Jubilee pin.

Towards the end of the day a reasonably deep target proved to be yet another SA dog, from July 1921 - June 1922, followed by a pretty crusty 1919 hp.

Other finds included a gold gilded buckle, watch & clock parts, a key hole, buckles, cutlery, lipstick container, and possibly a decorative top for a walking cane. :)

Can't be too many around, I think there were only about 25 soldiers from this area that went to Africa with B Squadron 1 troop (mounted rifles). My Great Great Grandfather actually led the SA contingent to the Boer War (Colonel Frederick Henry Howland).

Here he is looking very swish on his horse.

Here he is in Africa in battle dress, the pith helmet and sword are on display at our local RSL.

Wow , great finds for sure :p
Has there been another one of those medals on here ? Not so long back
The Jubilee pin is a cracker
Family history ... Proud stuff ;)

Cool history GP, quite a few of my relatives fought in the Boer War also, not mentioning names but my Great Great Grandfather was retired hurt from the war there after being shot in the knee.

Awesome find that medal and great photos of your GG Grandad. :)

Didn't get a huge amount of detecting time today due to the rain, still managed a quick session for a few more relics. Nothing amazing this hunt, the brass bell was probably the best find, the only markings are "S" & "B" stamped into the top end. I am thinking it either belongs to a shop door, or possibly a small school, will need to do a bit more research on that.

I hit a few more buttons this time, your typical Excelsior and The Climax brands from late 1800's/early 1900's. The lighter was something different for the site, along with a decent sized musket ball.

Next trip will involve a bit more scouting around to see whether any other dwellings exist in the immediate area, as the finds appear to be thinning out at this stage. :)
